Original Species: Chiascu

I've been seeing these creatures in my dreams recently (dunno why, I just have odd dreams sometimes) so I figured I'd draw them up. 
I've named them "Chiascu" which is simply taken from the term "Chiaroscuro" relating to their light and dark nature.
The Chiascu pictured above are (left to right) Simon, Anya, and Caleb.

Colors:
 Chiascu colors relate directly to the color of the birthstone of the month they were born. Colors lighten or darken over time after they come of age (about 16 y/o) and choose which plane to live on. If the Chiascu chooses the plane of Polus, their feathers turn white, save for their flight feathers which darken in color while their skin pigment becomes a pale hue of their birth color. If they choose the plane of Tenebrae, their feathers turn black and their flight feathers lighten in color while their skin pigment becomes a darker, grey-ish hue of their birth color. Same concept goes for their horns, markings, and tails. The horns darken or lighten at the tips, leaving only a bit of color at the base, while their tails turn completely black or white as the gems lighten or darken in color. Their markings darken or lighten to correspond with the color of their flight feathers.

Children:
 Chiascu children, belonging to the plane of Orsus, are born with fully-colored wings, horns, markings and tails while their skin is a pale grey. They tend to wear a mixture of black and white or grey. 
When they come to the age of 10, they are taken in a group by representatives of Polus and Tenebrae to see each plane and what it has to offer once they come of age. Each plane has a day to charm (or scare) each child into choosing their plane as home later in their life. The representatives generally choose to spoil the ones they see may become great heroes later on more than the others, as having stronger Chiascu on their side would be crucial were there ever to be a war between Polus and Tenebrae.

Females:
 Females normally have their horns curved towards the front of them, their tails tend to have one large gem at the base along with the normal three on the end, and their makings start at the base of their horns and in some cases on their foreheads.

Males: 
 Males normally have their horns curved towards the back of them, their tails tend to have a large and small gem at the base along with the normal three at the end, and their markings normally start at the back of their necks and sometimes on the bridge of their nose.

Plane of Polus:
 The plane of Polus is a beautiful land where the sun always shines and the flowers are always in bloom. Chiascu who live in Polus range in temperaments, but all have light clothing and feathers and dark markings.

Plane of Tenebrae:
 The plane of Tenebrae is a wondrous land below a canopy of tall trees (_{"Look at all these big ass trees" xD}) which offers plenty of shade and cool weather. Residents of Tenebrae have black feathers and clothing as well as light markings (These make them easier to spot in all the shade as they give off a soft glow).

Plane of Orsus:
 Also known as the Plane of Beginnings, this is where all mothers and fathers come when they're expecting and where all children are raised. It is a safe haven between Polus and Tenebrae where all Chiascu children learn the basics of speech, flight, etc. until they are old enough to ascend or descend to the plane of their choosing. If a child shows to be caring in nature they may be chosen to stay on Orsus and become caretakers. If this happens, their feathers, tail, and horns become grey instead of black or white. Caretakers are rare and are well taken care of on Orsus as they are needed to raise the children and teach them the ways of the Chiascu.

Old age:
 As Chiascu grow older they are put into a special village on each plane. During this time their flight feathers fade to gray and their other colorings fade to a dull hue. They are called "Sophus" during this period of life and are highly revered in their planes and sought after for advice by younger Chiascu.

Death:
 Upon their death, whether it be in battle or natural causes, Chiascu are brought to a Plane called Divus, where all souls are thought to live on. The only beings to ever set foot on this plane are priests or priestesses who are sent to carry the dead to their resting place. They are sworn to secrecy on matters relating to the plane, so no one knows if it is true or not that souls roam free there.
